marionette

Strings Attached

Thank God I started running again. My heart pounded in my ears as I ran down the carless road. Where was everyone? It only made his cackling louder as it echoed off the buildings. I chanced a glance behind me, hoping I wouldn’t trip over myself. The puppet was still chasing me.

You’re probably wondering how I ended up here. Prepare to be disappointed, because I have no idea why I was suddenly being chased by a Chucky. Bad luck, or likely bad choices. My pursuer wasn’t actually a Chucky doll – it was a marionette. It was wooden, on the small side, and dressed in a red court jester outfit.

The only difference was my chaser had a more rectangular head, that separated completely at the mouth line when it laughed at me. Just like Terrence and Phillip in South Park.

So now that you have that image in your head, let me continue my story. I’m running for my life (I had the feeling the puppet had zero good intentions) while he continues to chase and maniacally laugh at me. It was dreadfully terrifying when I realized his strings were dragging behind him. I think it’s important to note that no one was controlling him – this was one evil Pinocchio.

Then, although there were no cars on the road – and definitely not where one should have been – I happened upon a roller coaster. Desperate (and suddenly stupid) to get away, I clambered on and buckled myself in – ready for the escape. But as soon as we were about to take off, I heard the laughing right behind me.

My heart dropped and slowly turned around, already knowing what I was going to find. My little puppet was in the row behind me, buckled in. He continued laughing like a mad man while he struggled to get out of the seat belt.

Defeated, I turned back forward with hopeless attempts to ignore the cackling behind me. This was going to be a fun ride.
