Rating: ★★★★

I’m behind in book reviews, so I’ll start with my most recent finish. I’m trying to be more consistent with my daily walks, which means I have to have purpose for those walks. Yes, as Arnold actually suggests in this book, I can use my walking time to ponder and let creativity flow, which I do sometimes. But sometimes I’m not ready to be alone with my thoughts, so I resort to hearing music or listening to an audiobook. As you may already know, I’m not a fan of audiobooks. But I can bear them if it’s a memoir read by the author.
In comes, “Be Useful: Seven Tools for Life” by Arnold Schwarzenegger. I’ve always been a fan of his – I think mostly because he reminds me of my Dad. Other than the Austrian accent, they both talk the same and have similar humor. They also share many of the same values behind work ethic. There were many times during this audiobook where I felt like it could have been my Dad lecturing me. So yeah, I may be a tad biased but I was also curious how Arnold did everything he did. It turns out he is a freak.
Not in a bad way, but he just naturally has a go-getter personality and dreams very big. I know I’ll never be the Terminator, but he breaks these “tools” down in his book really simply. And when it’s simple, it’s motivating. Which is his goal with this book – don’t just sit there, get up and do it.
I enjoyed this very much, took away a lot of lessons I’ll be applying to my daily life, and would recommend to anyone needing a kick in the butt to get them going.
