The Whisperer

When I felt the bed sink in at my feet,

I knew she was there, I knew she was there.

When all sound escaped, leaving my heart beat,

I knew she was here, I knew she was here.

And with no breath, her lips began to part,

She was whispering, she was whispering.

Most fearful of the words she would impart,

She kept whispering, she kept whispering.

Now my heart consumed by rage and thunder,

She faded away, she faded away.

I drifted into my nighttime slumber.

I faded away, I faded away.

And as the new dawn promises me hope,

I still feel a tickle in my throat.
