Hopelessly In Stupid

After years of broken relationships,

Why’s it still a struggle to learn from them?

To step back and examine the hardships

Is on track to see where the issues stem.

Although I can safely trace it all back

And tell myself, “Here. Here is where it fell”,

All my memories fade out and go black

When I stare down this too familiar well.

Its depth and darkness beckon me closer.

I can’t blame it on my naivety.

Chills creep up my spine as I lean over,

But I let go and fall down shamelessly.

I say I will not repeat a mistake,

But to refrain makes my heart cry and ache.

  1. I have a theory that “romantic love” is a human invention. I wonder though at the tenderness some mammals and birds demonstrate when courting and mating. For most, it’s strictly business, and then the two separate and go their different ways. Maybe a function of resource availability.
